To upgrade the safety I’m installing new 3-point seat belts to replace the stock lap-belts. A kit from Morris Classic makes this very easy. There is no fabrication needed, all mounting points exist: the bottom two points are the same as the stock belts and the top shoulder mount point exists but is unused on the stock Firebirds/Camaros.
- The car without seat belts
- One half of the front seat belt kit
During the headliner install I made sure to install the upper belts so that they are easy to find now. I also installed the lower bolts under the carpet. The first thing is to cut holes for the mounting locations. For the upper mount this was just a case of using a sharp blade to cut a small slot for the head to poke through. And for the lower bolts I used a soldering iron to melt a hole.
- The lower two mount points just behind the seat track mounts
- The top mounting point has two bolts that go through the headliner
The retractable belt reel is sided – there’s a driver and passenger side, but installation is straight forward.
- The installed passenger side seat belt
- View of the tunnel mounted belt ends
- The driver and passenger seat belts all done
